This project involved replacing a failed wooden retaining wall that collapsed during the rainy season. The new structure had to be durable, aesthetically pleasing, and built to withstand harsh weather conditions. Our solution was a reinforced Allan Block retaining wall system, designed to provide long-term stability and enhance the backyard’s functionality.
Project Challenges & Execution
One of the biggest obstacles was the steep slope leading to the backyard. Even minimal rainfall caused the Bobcat to slide, making access difficult. Additionally, heavy snowfall in December 2022 delayed work for over a month. To manage the excavation efficiently, we collaborated with Contour Excavating to ensure a stable foundation before starting construction.
Project Details
- Material Used: AB Classic blocks in Silverado color with Charcoal caps.
- Wall Structure:
- Two retaining walls: one straight, one curved.
- Stairs in both the front and back.
- The longest wall was located in the backyard.
- Wall Size: 4 feet in height, utilizing 17 pallets of materials.
- Foundation & Backfill: 3/4” clear crush, with over 30 tons used.
- Drainage System: Installed behind the wall with exit points at the bottom row for optimal water management.
